Egypt – Feb. 4 – NY Times report on Obama/USA behind the scenes machinations

Tony Blair said to Sky News that the uprising in Egypt must not be allowed to harm the region’s peace process. What?!?!?! This haughty stupid comment perhaps embodies the notions that rule the governments in the West.

This slight statement conveys so many of the attitudes that prevent peace and progress for people living in Egypt, the Middle East and around the world. There is no peace process except in Blair’s head and the implicit notion that Egypt and the region is incapable of governing itself should be left locked in Blair’s head and not allowed to see the light of day.

Blair should get a real job instead of parading around acting as if he is contributing to anything other than the maintenance of western corporations and military contractors.

The e New York Times writes in an article entitled “White House, Egypt Discuss Plan for Mubarak’s Exit”:

“The Obama administration is discussing with Egyptian officials a proposal for President Hosni Mubarak to resign immediately and turn over power to a transitional government headed by Vice President Omar Suleiman with the support of the Egyptian military, administration officials and Arab diplomats said Thursday.

The proposal also calls for the transitional government to invite members from a broad range of opposition groups, including the banned Muslim Brotherhood, to begin work to open up the country’s electoral system in an effort to bring about free and fair elections in September, the officials said.

For more information on Vice President Omar Suleiman and military aid to Egypt from the U.S. see the LSW Egypt page.

LSW is somewhat sceptical regarding any intervention in the uprising in Egypt given the extensive financial, military and political contacts between the two countries. Hard to see Obama jeopardizing its corporate welfare towards military contractors.

LSW believes that the uprising will have a second larger fight, should Mubarak take his hat and leave, which would require battling international interests in Egypt and the internation order in which common people almost invariably take it on the chin as the rich further engorge themselves.
